The winning design

Australian House and Garden held a nationwide competition to seek a house that ticked all the boxes when it comes to sustainability, flexibility and is ideal for the modern Australian family.

Sydney architect, Madeleine Blanchfield, was behind the winning design for My Ideal House. The most brilliant thing about her design is that it involved a modular form that was easily adapted four ways depending on site orientation.

Flooring of choice - Palazzo Pure Oak Extra Matt

The innovative project warranted a floor which oozed beauty and was matched with performance and innovation. The answer was Quick-Step’s Palazzo Pure Oak Extra Matt – a European timber floor.

The Palazzo was installed in the home’s multipurpose room at the front of the house, hallway, on the stairs and in the upstairs bedrooms. The European Oak chosen to make the boards was of the highest grade, with very few knots and marks. The slight bevel to the long edge, adds depth and perspective to the room.

Kendall Waller, national product manager for Quick-Step Australia, followed up the process every step of the way. “With a clean and elegant interior in mind, Quick-Step Palazzo Pure Oak Extra Matt became the flooring of choice. The floor has a quality underlay and feels soft on the foot. Moreover, its insulating surface assures it’s cool in summer and warm in winter”, Waller explains the selection of this particular floor. “Quick-Step, House & Garden and My Ideal House connected through their shared love for quality interiors. A successful collaboration!”
